Matthew Arlnold School

Statement for Universities

Matthew Arnold is an 11-18 academy serving a mixed catchment on the West of Oxford.

The vast majority of our students this year have taken three subjects at A-Level and continue into year 13 with three linear  A-Level subjects. A minority of students take four subjects and the EPQ is  offered  to all students. Our standard teaching provision is eight hours each fortnight. Given funding constraints some of our A-Level subjects have less teacher led sessions than our standard provision of eight hours per fortnight. These are Further Maths, Music, French, Spanish, and German.

The disruption caused by Covid 19 has affected the students in the following way:

We were closed for the standard period. Students received teaching through Google Classroom but did not receive live teacher sessions. When schools were allowed to open  Year 12 students received 5 weeks of 2 hour taught sessions for each subject. This was half of the usual taught provision. We currently operate on a normal timetable.

The predicted grades that the school makes are based on our internal assessments which take place throughout the year and in the mock exam period at the end of Year 12 which contains published exam assessments.

This year we have lost the opportunity to take end of Year 12 assessments. Students are instead taking assessments at the start of Year 13. Predicted grades will be partly based on these assessments; work throughout the year and also students' prior attainment.
